Claiming Rebates on the
IWL Program

Most insurers cover IWL essentials under Weight Management Programs/ Healthy Lifestyle. All health insurance companies cover IWL PLUS under dietetics consultations.

Itemised receipts are emailed immediately after payment is made.

Medicare Rebates

  • Eligibility:

    Rebates are available through the Chronic Disease Management Plan (requires GP referral). This applies to dietitian consultations (IWL PLUS).

  • What you’ll need:

    A referral from your GP, who will establish a Chronic Disease Management Plan for you.

  • How to claim:

    Pay for your consultation as usual, then submit your receipt to Medicare for the rebate. Rebates are available for each dietitian consult, with amounts based on the Medicare schedule.

Private Health Insurance Rebates

  • Essentials Program:

  • PLUS Program:

    All health insurance companies cover IWL PLUS under dietetics consultations.

  • How to claim:

    Pay for your program or consultation as usual, then submit your receipt to your health fund. Rebates differ by provider and policy.

The Process

  1. Check your eligibility through a GP referral or health fund coverage.
  2. Enrol in IWL Essentials or PLUS.
  3. An itemised receipt will be emailed to you immediately.
  4. Submit them to Medicare or your health fund.
  5. Receive your rebate.

FAQs

No, you can claim either a Medicare rebate (if you have a GP Management Plan or Chronic Disease Management referral) or a private health rebate, but not both for the same consultation.

It depends on your cover. Private health rebates usually range from $100–$500 per year depending on your fund and extras policy. Medicare rebates are set per consultation under the Medicare schedule and only apply if you have a GP referral for dietitian consults.

No, you can claim as you go. After each consultation, simply submit your invoice or receipt to Medicare or your health fund for a rebate.
